Today's gift-pieces

My mom bought me an absolutely gorgeous dragonfly tiffany lamp and a framed piece of embroidery depicting twelve koi in a circle with food in the center. She got Rebecca a jewelry amroire and also gave us books on vegetarian and Jewish cooking.

The crazy aunt gave me a book on automatic writing (which would interest me except for the fact that it's all like "Automatic writing: messages from beyond the grave! Oooooh, scary!") and another on Celtic mandalas. Thankfully, no goofy books about Wicca and goddesses this year... The rest of the family gave money. Between Rebs and I, we now have $260 more than we did before, which will come in quite handy with my car insurance payments for the New Year looming over us. There was a Target gift card, too.

I am pretty impressed with the development in my social skills. At our family dinner with my dad's side of the family, I'm generally anti-social as hell. This year, I talked to everyone. I think it's the Paxil. I used to be afraid people would get annoyed with me when I talked. Now, I think I just don't care if they get annoyed with me... I keep asking questions. I was asking my silent, stoic grandfather all about his horse farm in Texas. I think he got a bit of a shock when Rebecca sat down next to me and rested her head on my shoulder. His eyes went wide, he got up off the couch and went out to the dinning room. I think he was the only one who didn't have at least some inkling, previously...
