BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Article I, Texas Constitution, is amended by
adding Section 32 to read as follows:
Sec. 32. (a) Marriage in this state shall consist only of
the union of one man and one woman.
(b) This state or a political subdivision of this state may
not create or recognize any legal status identical or similar to
marriage.
It's nice to see that for all the talk about the "gay menace" working to dissolve marriage, the conservatives got off their butts and *did* something about it!
WOOO! You get down with your bad selves.
World: "Um. That amendment will make all marriages illegal."
Texas: "YOU DAMN HIPPIE FAGGAT! YOU ALL HATE AMERICA!"
*UPDATE*
I, like many others, amused myself by seeing the last bit and laughing. Therefore, I didn't really see the ramifications of both parts taken together.
What they've actually done, rather then their intent of making gay marriage illegal, is to actually specifically ban 1 man and 1 woman marriages while specifically *excluding* same sex unions.
Something like this (and I'm paraphrasing from some other articles, but I don't remember which)
1) Marriage is defined as 1 man and 1 woman.
2) Texas cannot recognize anything like marriage.
So, if marriage is 1 man and 1 woman, then the state of Texas no longer will recognize anything identical or similar to 1 man or 1 woman, therefore, 1 man and 1 man are specifically not marriage, therefore, not specifically banned.
They actually accomplished the exact opposite of what they were shooting for. HAHAHA.
The funny part is, it will require a vote to repeal that law and another vote to put the corrected version up.
Until then, it's a legal free for all! WOOOO!
