My kids are cool. Seriously.

Allow me a moment of "proud poppa"?

Excuse me, but my kids are the coolest and best. So there. Nah.
I have three. Hum.. they need some cool blog names, because, hey, I'm not gonna go throwing my kids names all over the interweb.. :)

Lets see... names.. Ok, got it.

My youngest is Wednesday, she's 9 (nearly 10 as she's quick to point out). She's creative, sharp and a little creepy. Highly artistic and creative, she's already planning on being an artist. She's also famous for her very popular joke, "Why did the spaghetti get in your hair? A: Because it wanted to eat out your EYES! Muahahaha!" (Yes, the evil laughter is an important part of the joke) and for her Origami "Brainsucker machine". Short, blond and disarmingly cute, you just don't expect her to toss off the dark sense of humor... not that I'd know where she inherited that from... *walks away, whistling nervously*

Second in line, age wise, is the boy. Let's call him Link. He's 11 and plans on turning 12 around January. Link, as you may have guessed from the name, has some mad video game skills. He still can't beat me, I do have about 20 years of twitch practice on him, but he does make me work for it. I've recently introduced him to UT2k4 and it took him about 3 practice maps before he was capturing flags and shock whoring like a madman. However, in my old school gamer heart, I'm pretty stoked that he's got the mad MegaMan skills, yo. Makes me happy, you know? :) Not that he's a total couch potato. He wants to play basketball and baseball on a team next year (hopefully, he'll come live with me and be able to do so, but that's another story) and he's been practicing his hoops outside pretty faithfully this year. 100 shots a day, working on his form. That's a good boy. :)

Then, we have my eldest, let's call her.. Molly. Short for Molly Ringwald. 13 years old and she's loving the 80's. I'm not sure why, but Molly has developed a love for 80's music, in particular, *vinyl* 80's music. We're now making semi regular trips to Vintage Vinyl for her to spend her allowance and lawn earnings on Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, Bangles and Devo records. Molly is also very smart. Recently, she earned the right of going to young evil super genius camp by scoring very high on the verbal portion of the SAT. She'll be taking a collage honors level writing course, 6 hours a day for 3 weeks. Rough, but she's up for the challenge as she hopes to be a writer some day. She's really shaping up to be her own person, and I'm really proud to see her wearing cloths that *she* likes instead of the "junior high uniform" as she refers to the hoodie and jeans crowd.

Yes, I know.. two of my three children so far are leaning towards professions that nearly guarantee I'm going to be supporting them when they are twenty... However, I refuse to back down from my "Follow your dreams to be happy in life" position. I try to teach them that if they do what they love, then their living will follow, be it poor or rich, they'll be happy because they are doing what they love!

Here, let's make a list of why I assert my kids are cooler then anybody else's.

1. They are extremely well behaved. This makes them the only kids I know that regularly get invited back to "adult" parties and events because the people that have the events *know* that my kids can behave in a mature and reasonable fashion. They all take particular pride in knowing how to *not* act like those hooligan kids running around when the time comes (not that they don't act like that when the time is appropriate to do so.. don't think that I forbid them child like fun, there's just a time an place for it)

2. They get alone in a good fashion. I mean, we're talking about a step-sibling relationship here and yet, they get alone so well, you'd never know it. (Molly is my wifes and Link and Wednesday are mine) It's like a freaky party... Every day!

3. They are learning Japanese. This is just cool. I instigated it, but they have really picked up and ran with it on their own initiative. I got a basic book of writing Kanji and within about 20 minutes of it being in the house, they had organized on the couch, conducting their own lessons out of the book while quizzing each other on what they were learning. Molly told me last night that she would read the next chapter and put together a lesson plan for todays work as soon as she got up, so they could practice more efficiently. So, they are, of their own accord, doing about an hour and a half of verbal instruction from cd each day (the lessons are around 45 minutes long and they go through each one twice to make sure they didn't miss anything), and have now added another hour of writing instruction, working from the book I got them. I started the verbal stuff they are learning, but I'm pretty sure they are going to breeze past me by next week.

Ok, well.. I should probably do some work instead of bragging about my kids all day to strangers on the interweb, but hey, I'm proud of em and wanted to share. :)
