So, over the summer Federico and I were talking about how I would like
to teach, but I don't want to deal with the bullshit of the American
public education system. We had a long discussion about it, and he was
telling me I should get my PhD and teach college.
Well, I went in this afternoon to talk to him about my Italian major,
and he said, "Carolina, ever since talking to you this summer, I've
been thinking, and I think I have the perfect solution...."
He wants to send me to Milan for a year to teach after I graduate!
He said he couldn't make any promises this soon, but that I am "the
perfect candidate" for it. He has connections with La Universita
Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan, so he could set me up over there. I
don't know any details yet, but damn.
Firstly, it's fucking MILAN. Secondly, it's something to do after
graduation that's both different AND is a job. It will look great when
I'm applying to grad schools. Thirdly, it shows that he has confidence
in me both as a student and as an Italian speaker.
I am all sorts of happy right now.
