[Natu is on a mission.  That's how she's decided to think of this whole Mayfield thing, with its dimensional imprisonment.  She's stolen some of Sniper's clothes - a white undershirt, some blue jean pants, and a pair of boots - because she wouldn't be caught dead in the girly crap this town has filled her closet with.  And at Sniper's suggestion, ( Read more... )

[Ichabod was out on his lawn tending to his modest flower garden of various flowers from vines of morning glories to marigolds and a huge plant of red hollyhocks to the side that stood nearly as tall as he was and of course, wearing black and completely covered.

He had to buy another car since his De Ville was destroyed by the Goldberg Street wrecking crew with a 1943 black DeSoto now in the drive.

He spots the new comer and stands up from his kneeling position and dusts off his hands.]

It is a beautiful day for a walk, I must admit.

[Skipping the pleasantries for now, Natu goes straight for what she's here for. All business. No nonsense.]

"Is this the Crane residence?"

Yes it is.

[He wasn't surprised with the bluntness. He grew accustomed to it since meeting Olivier and living with his family. He stood with his hands to his sides then took a quick look around to see if there were any drones present. Satisfied with his findings, he closed the distance to where he was an arm's length away.]

I am Ichabod Crane.

[Smiles just a little, nodding.]

"Good to meet you, Mr. Crane. My name is Soranik Natu of the Green Lantern Corps. I have recently arrived here in this town, and my temporary husband has informed me that you are one of the people with the most information about this place. I was wondering if you would be willing to share what you have learned with me."

Oh. A pleasure to meet you and I am deeply flattered. Please, come in.

[He moved toward the house and opened the door, allowing Soranik to enter first. The inside has books and papers all over the place with notes and maps of Mayfield and places of interest. Books and small samples littered the coffee table and his doctor's lab coat was draped on the back of his recliner.]

And who is your, uh, husband?

[He moved toward the kitchen to fetch the tea service that he had the chore of cleaning every time since the chores were his job in keeping up.]

[Looks around the house as she is led into the living room, smiling appreciatively as her eyes catch sight of the lab coat.]

"Are you a doctor as well, Mr. Crane? Oh, and as for my husband, his name is Patrik Brown. You may know him more familiarly as 'Sniper,' however."

[He returns from the kitchen with the tea service and smiled at the remembrance of the name ( ... )

[Natu sits, graciously accepting the offering of tea and cookies. She squeezes one of the lemon wedges into her tea, adding just a small bit of honey and taking a single cookie.]

"I am just trying to get a general overview of the sorts of things I can expect from this town and its inhabitants. I have already heard a number of things from Patrik, but in my experience it never hurts to have several different perspectives on a problem."

Ah, I understand. Well, for starters, it is wise not to take or consume anything you or those in your house have prepared personally or from those you trust. My wife and I suspect that the water or a combination of certain chemicals could in fact cause one to forget their times and their purpose here ( ... )

[Nods, taking this all in.]

"I see. What of the local authorities? Have they been compromised as well?"

[He scowled at thinking about the authorities which have been a thorn in his side ever since he started living here. He sat back in his chair and knitted his fingers together.]

The local authorities are a joke. They are drones and most do not seem to be all that observant. Grady is the only one that I know of that has the public's eye and seems to work closely with the Mayor. If anything, he is the biggest threat to keeping us in line.

However, his presence is also a disruption to those of us that want the truth. It is an insatiable desire for many of us that crave answers that we seek it ourselves since the authorities would rather keep us in submission.

[Frowns, folding her arms.]

"Damn. I was hoping you wouldn't say that, though I must admit I already suspected that was the case. This wouldn't be a very effective prison without wardens, after all."

[He nods his head and notes her frustration. He's felt what she's felt many times before.]

You put it exactly as I had said it to myself once I realized what was going on after my awakening. A prison. A place where there is no escape veiled with the promise of a better life though there is hardly a life at all other than what some of us choose to make it.

However, this does not say that there are some enjoyable moments scattered here and there. Every time there is a chance to find the truth, another door is closed to seal us off from the last part.

This town....layers itself by stacking one obstacle over another whilst some forget what happened previously to focus on the new wall instead. It is this linear thinking that they count on, I believe though it is not yet proven....yet.

You sound as if you've already given up any hope of ever leaving this place.

I have not. In fact, it is the opposite. I have come up with a plan that will perhaps put the Mayor in a compromising position that could aid us all. Even though I choose not to leave, since there is little I can do back home, I have not given up on this town ( ... )

[Have a relieved smile as he starts to recount his plan.]

"Good. I'm glad to see that the people here haven't lost all hope entirely. It sounds like you've been planning this for some time. I'm planning to talk to the Major General as well, but I'll make sure to keep quiet about the plan if you would prefer.

But tell me... what is this about the stereotypes of women in this town? Is there some sort of systemic discrimination in place that I should be aware of?"
