The Dark Knight Rises Speculation: Selina Kyle's Hair/Wardrobe

Jun 07, 2012 22:54

Because I'm a spoiler ho, I caved and started looking at some set pictures from The Dark Knight Rises that were all over the Interweb. In doing so, I noticed some things in regards to the way they were presenting Selina Kyle that I find fascinating.

It's my theory that Selina Kyle's hair and wardrobe are tools in telling her apart from her Catwoman alter-ego and that they might become storytelling devices within the movie.

Catwoman = Hair Down

Selina Kyle = Hair Up

Clothing Color Scheme

In terms of wardrobe, in almost every set picture of Selina available (with a few exceptions), she is wearing black (or at the very least, dark colors). Black is typically a way to paint a villain and since I think she'll be one for the first half of the film, that makes sense to me.

The Exceptions to the Rule

The most notable exceptions to the color scheme are Selina in jail (the orange jumpsuit, seen above) and THIS:

What's interesting about the picture of what looks like Selina (I'm assuming, given the necklace, this is not just a picture of Anne Hathaway chillin' on set and is actually part of her character's costuming) in a white dress is that a) she's wearing WHITE instead of black and b) her hair is DOWN.

If this is, indeed, Anne in character, I think this image is at the end of the movie, potentially, showing a redeemed Selina Kyle (no longer a villain in black) and maybe without being Catwoman anymore (thus, no need for her hair up to distinguish between identities).

Of course, I'm betting fake money on the fact that she probably stole the necklace around her neck so that's where my theory sort of falls apart a bit...but, who knows? If Bruce Wayne makes it out of this movie alive, maybe he buys her a gift?

It's also worth noting that the image below has Selina in black with her hair down (versus the white with hair down in the one above):

When would that come in the story? The halfway point in transitioning from villainess to heroine?

Just something to pay attention to...

I should be more concerned that Selina has a summertime dress on and is wearing sandals while there is "snow" on the steps, but for right now, I'll be looking out for what she wears and how she does her hair in the film.
