Perhaps in reality X (alternate), Jack doesn't fix Sarah. Perhaps he makes a mistake by accidentally cutting something vital and loses her (and the old guy he chooses not to save in S1).

He is unable to cope with his error and begins to drink and spiral out of control. Juliette leaves him because she can't stand to facilitate his self destruction. And boom, she's rich because she gets half of everything and is ripe for conning by Sawyer X in 2004.

Well, first off, we're not supposed to consider the other reality as "alternate". Darlton said so in an Entertainment Weekly interview because they said if you call it "alternate", that means one is more real than the other and that may not be the case

Someone posted your comment somewhere... I think it was in The Fuse, and it's a really valid argument, I really loved the Superman reference -though I haven't touched a comic in my life, will hopefully get my hands on them some day-.

I must say, for whatever reasons, I still think Juliet is the mom -I guess the blue eyes impacted big time on me, though I do know that brown-eyes parents can have blue eyes kids-, but I really don't care as long as she and James can be happy and go dutch.
