i'm currently in the process of writing a paper on the inequalites of education in the united states and while looking back over my notes i read something that made me laugh and i had to stop and post about it.
so in class one day we were talking about tracking (ability grouping) and how we use those reading groups in kindergarten and first grade or whatever. my teacher said that the group of fast learners in her elementary school was called the "jet planes." then there was the middle group whose name she couldn't remember. finally there was the slow readers whose group name was, i kid you not, the "tug boats."
hahaha, isn't that so funny? i mean seriously it probably gave some kids complexes, but still... what sort of teacher would name her reading group that?
