LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT MY DAY AT WORK I'm sure it is very interesting. :|

I got to take apart the main computer at work today! :D Well, take the casing off. It shut off completely in the middle of a transaction and wouldn't turn back on, which meant that the other computer, which is networked with it, was also unuseable. (It's the secondary computer, so if the network goes down on the main one, none of the programs we use for transactions, etc, can be accessed through that computer. Stupid, really.) ANYWAY. After a phonecall to the computer dude at Corporate, I took the casing off the thing in hopes that cleaning it out and everything would make it work again.

There were dust bunnies the size of my fist in there. o.o Working at this place has taught me a lot about the sorts of dirt that get into electronics.

Cleaned it out, tried to turn it on. Nothing. Tried three different plugs just in case. Still nothing. Then got the brilliant idea to change the battery in the battery backup/surge protector, which had died the week before. (We'd just gotten the new battery in transfer, too!) So I did that, then plugged the computer into that and tried to turn it on. Victory! :D

Of course, then the keyboard only worked sporadically (we've been having this problem for awhile), and then the secondary computer froze up again, and then I broke the internet, and there were all kinds of little annoying problems, but at least by the time I left again everything was pretty much functioning.

But I got to spend an hour and a half toddling about on the floor dismantling one of our computers and putting it back together again. It was fun. It was probably not so fun for Sam, who had to ring up all the transactions we had in that time frame by hand, but I got to putter with electronics! I like dismantling things and putting them back together about as much as I like alphabetizing stuff.

And then Nola and Freya came in and they and Sam and I were all very silly at each other. I made a defect slip for Sam because he couldn't count to ten (the explanation of the defect very literally said "cannot count to ten" on it) and taped it to his chest. Nola messed up hilariously on the schedule. I broke the internet. EVERYTHING WAS FUNNY. I also had a dust bunny in my hair at one point.

And then I come home to find that I have no idea where my checkbook has gone, and this is making me vaguely flaily. Although I do have my computer at a desk now instead of just propped up on my bed, so my back likes me a lot more than it did.

I'm also very tired, but that's my own fault for staying up too late. :|
