DCVIII: The Crazies on the Bus Go Round and Round

Aug 11, 2009 19:00

Very curious experience on the bus this morning. I was taking the X28 downtown, per the usual, and this woman got on when we stopped at Michigan and Congress. Didn't think much of her at the start....I rarely think about much of anyone on the bus in the morning. It's just too early to care, right? Anyways, she gets to talking with this person next to her. Suddenly, we're all stuck listening to her evangelize right there on the bus. Must have been a closet Baptist minister or something. I dunno. All I know is she was practically screaming her message about god and marriage and all sorts of things. She went on and on from the corner of Michigan and Adams to the time she got off at Adams and Wells. One woman in front of me had her cell phone recording the whole thing live. I wonder if it's been posted as a YouTube video by now. Not worth it to check, but it'd be rather funny if it were.

It always amazes me the people who do that kind of thing. Back when I used to be religious, I would never have thought to evangelize in a public place. What I believe is one thing....I didn't ever try to push it onto anyone else. But I think that might be the general way of the Missouri Synod Lutherans. Who knows. But this woman had no beef about telling everyone how wrong they were about what they thought of god and marriage. She was particularly adamant about marriage and how it related to worship and on and on and on. All I wanted to do was throttle her because the last thing I wanted was a sermon on the bus at eight am. If I wanted to attend a sermon, I'd go to church.

This woman's entourage, though, was all for listening to her rant and rave. They were nodding and chiming in with the 'amens' and everything. It was rather spooky. Never was happier than when she finally got off the bus. Although I got off at the next stop, so it didn't matter in the end. I hope she's never on the same bus as me again.

Rage more, Mary Brave, rage more.
