i'm just a type of landmine that will explode without a decent warning

One of my best friends, Anne (silent_lorelei), has recently suffered a catastrophic data crash. They think her hard drive IS recoverable, but the price she's been quoted is 300 dollars.

She has no access to that kind of money and is barely scraping by as it is. (This was the backup hard drive that crashed, because her REGULAR hard drive crashed less than a week ago. It was a perfect storm-she literally had just loaded her OS/files on the backup hard drive and was preparing to make a new backup and it crashed.)

While I know there are greater tragedies out there more deserving of your money, there's something that's hit very close to home for me and all I'm asking for is 5 or 10 bucks. You can make a real difference in one of my very close friend's life.

Her paypal address is amyers AT greensborocollege DOT edu

Read more about what she lost (scans of family photos that are now lost, etc). Read about how long it would, best guess, take to recover/redownload the things that are still recoverable. Most of what she lost is not recoverable, including novels she wrote in various forms of completion and music/books she legally paid for and downloaded that don't offer redownload capability.

Like I said, I know there are other tragedies out there that are possibly more deserving, but she's one of my best friends and this has really hit her very hard, and 5 bucks is really not too much to ask for, I hope.

I will be donating 100 dollars
as soon as I have any money,
in case you're wondering.
