How to get a new pair of glasses.

"Great experience, quick and easy. Just expensive."

How I did it: Went to the Wal-mart Vision Center and had a really great customer service experience.  The optometrist was friendly and we had a nice discussion about beer while he did my prescription.  The optician was extremely friendly and fun to talk to and she helped a lot with picking out the lenses.

I also brought my mom, which helped a lot in picking out the new frames since I couldn't see without my real glasses on.

The optometrist did NOT have to dilate my eyes, even though I'd asked for it, because apparently some of the medications I'm on dilate them already.  This was really important for me to know, (and why you MUST tell them all the medications you take) because the medications and the dilation can have an adverse reaction that my optometrist told me can lead to your eyes being dilated for days.

I also got my eyes checked for glaucoma and the other yucky things while I was there, which is always a good idea.

Lessons & tips: * Be prepared--have your old prescription or old glasses with you.  (If you don't have your prescription, they can put your old glasses in a machine and find out your old script that way.)  Also bring a list of all the medications you're taking, and know if any of those medications put you at higher risk for developing eye problems!
* Bring someone else!  It's not a good idea to drive yourself home, in case you need/want to get your eyes dilated.  It's also helpful to have someone else there whose opinion you trust to tell you how the frames look on you.
* I needed new frames since my old ones were broken, but if you don't, you can save the money of a pair of frames and just use your old ones and put in new lenses.

Resources: * After I got my new glasses, everything looked weird to me.  I found this answer at Metafilter that explained why: http://ask.metafilter.com/98666/Why-are-my-new-glasses-disorienting-me

It took me 4 years.
