Last night went well.

I had my DJ tryout for Lucky Cheng's, and it went very well.

I'm in your camp. If the request fits the night, it should be played if you have it. Maybe not right away, but try to work it in. For example, at Sex Dwarf: if somebody requests, say, Michael Jackson or Journey, I tell them in a nice manner that while that is a good request (you may think it sucks but you shouldn't tell them that), I do not have it with me as it does not fit the theme of the night -- and remind them what the theme of the night is. Maybe it is their first time there and they genuinely don't know! At that point, I ask them to think of something else they might like and if I have it and it fits, I go ahead and play it.

There are times that some requests just can't be worked in for whatever reason. But I do try to play as many as possible. I'm there to make people happy. I want to see them dance, get excited, and enjoy themselves. This is just one reason why we are so successful and well-liked in Philadelphia. YMMV.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I'm so hoping you get a regular gig up in the city. Not just for me to help you, but I seriously need to just GO OUT in the city one of these years. I feel like I'm always stuck here in Trendy Town with nothing remotely cool to do. *sigh* Having just started a new job doesn't help things either.

I wish you luck with it and you know if you want help sometime, I would gladly try to help you in any capacity. Even if I just have to repost a bulletin on MySpace. ;)

I'm in agreement with playing requests if it fits in with what you are doing. If a person asks for something not within the bounds of what "m playing that night, I make a list of suggestions, and nine times out of ten, they go with one of them.

What does YMMV mean?
