According to my doctors, I should start feeling a lot better soon, which means I will actually have an energy level, and not have to force myself to go out and do things.
A few days ago, I got off the phone with a promoter friend of mine, who let me know of some DJ opportunities he has lined up for me. Unfortunately for my NJ friends, they are all in NYC, with the possibility of only one being in NJ, but only as a one-shot. The guy promoting for me got around 300 people to an event he promoted, and that is good enough for me. When the club shafted him with money and kept him out of the loop with the night he proposed and started, he stopped promoting, and three events later, less than 40 people showed up to this thing. Nope, the club did not get the message.
It is very frustrating to build nights up (from $60 to $700 in only 6 weeks), only to have the night cancelled, because the management "knew better," and substituted a garden-variety goth/industrial top 40 night in the place of my more diverse modern rock night, which cause the night to fail within two weeks.
As much as I will take a monthly gig, I want a weekly one, to show what I can do. Pure and simple, if a club gives me a regular night on an evening that is not doing all that well, I will double their money within 6 weeks. The only issue is that I need that 6 weeks. I am tired of not getting that chance; for goodness' sake, I can keep people in a club for 5 hours with nobody leaving, and put $2,500 in the drawer for years in a row; I know what I'm doing.
It would be nice to get excited about doing something I like again.
