There must be some end to this, or someplace where the forest starts to loop.

[Wandering beneath the bright canopy of the red forest is Ryuuko, perhaps slightly fascinated by the wildlife running seemingly freely about in what really should be a limited space. And even in Autumn, some of the types of trees in the forest really shouldn't be turning ( Read more... )

You know...I've been thinking about our good friend Orion and his communication's device.

Have you thought up anything certain?

Actually yes. [reaches for his Sphere and turns on a filter]

Orion said that he was once part of this ship, so it stands to reason that if Ganymede has a Sphere, so should he. It could be how the entire company operates! I mean, why use these communications device for one ship and not the entire fleet?

That makes sense, but the knowledge of an entire company of people using a standardized device doesn't help any great deal. Since we haven't seen anyone over the sphere network that wasn't on board the ship we have to assume that it doesn't extend very far, and that Orion was previously contacting the network by some other means.

Of course, barring the possibility that Ganymede wants to and is somehow restricting spheres' range.

It does, actually. That means the standard channels used by the devices can be blocked easier if they use a common source or similar programming.

Orion might know more about the operation of the Spheres simply because he's had three-four months to tinker with them while Ganymede was none the wiser.

Of course, there is a third option to all of this.

But now that Orion's done that he's decided to leave little more than a silent "follow me."

I'm listening.

Perhaps he had his last communication to us set on a filter. Though why he chose the other lift is rather curious in and of itself.

Third option is neither Ganymede or Orion--but the ship.

We won't know until we find out where the elevators lead, if they go anywhere at all. Or perhaps things will clear up if we receive another transmission from Orion or Ganymede.

Please, elaborate.

It's more of a matter of what does this forest hide? And will those two lifts eventually lead to the same place? If not on this level, but perhaps the next?

The ship itself could have some form of sentient life deep in its inner workings. It's small, but enough to cause trouble. My ship's tried to communicate with this one numerous times, but it doesn't respond to anything she's tried.

Your ship? Which is sentient, and here with you?

Yes. It's...terribly complicated, but long story short, my TARDIS--that's her name--was separated from her real body and forced to take on the form of bipedal humanoid, though her body's made up from agitated protoplasm.

You've might've seen her around, actually...

Hm.

The forest itself is a peripheral issue. We are heading towards the engine room, unless you choose to discredit Orion's word, Ganymede's sanity, or both.

And what reason would a sentient ship have to meddle with its passengers, or draw them on board?

filter; bit_impossible May 31 2009, 21:29:39 UTC
[actually, he doesn't trust either man, but isn't quite ready to announce that to everybody.] It's really just another obstacle, that forest.

Ahhh, well, that's the question, isn't it? The ship--and any sentient life it has is very minuscule at best--could simply be bored. It could want to stop Ganymede and bringing us on here is the best way to do so and sends us home when we cease to be useful to its cause. Putting us through the things we've been through could simply be tests to see how we react. The ship could very well be a huge psychological experiment for all we know.

There are simply far too many variables to know for sure.

[Kind of hard to trust anyone when you've no idea what's going on.]

What I'd like to know in particular is how Orion got on the ship, if it really was impossible for him to board with the engines still on.

Well...I'd say we've been tossed a monumentally-sized red herring.
