Last Monday, we witnessed the brutal and callous death of Dr. Sara Tancredi on the FOX drama Prison Break. The death concludes months of rumours and speculation as to the status of Sarah Wayne Callies, and confirms her sudden and unceremonious exit from the show which has benefited greatly from her luminous screen presence and heartfelt portrayal

On a completely different note, I’m off two minds when it comes to how the show has progressed. On the one hand, I think it’s fresh so to speak for the writers to have Michael this time breaking out of jail. Most shows wouldn’t go there - put one of the brothers in jail again and repeat S1 all over again - because most shows would automatically go for the payoff, which would be for the brothers to break out, be on the run and bring down the conspiracy while they do it. That’s expected. That’s been done. So great for them on going a different route. (See I have nice things to say about the writers?)
On the other hand, I’m really not feeling the repeat of S1. Don’t get me wrong I like Michael “MacGuyver” Scofield but I’m not getting that same heady rush of anticipation and apprehension and whatever else that I got in S1. Most shows don’t start repeating their early seasons until they’ve been on the air for awhile. As I’m watching S3 so far, I’m saying to myself, “Seen it. Not the same.” I’d much rather they went the route of bringing down the conspiracy this season even though it’s been done. I think part of the reason is (1) I don’t trust the writers to do make any sense of The Company and the conspiracy and (2) I need the brothers to move forward. I hate to say that I don’t trust the writers in that regard but it’s true. I have to trust them in other regards or else why watch, which is what I’m going to do despite my misgivings because I’m not ready to let the show go just yet. I need the brothers to move forward because I think they deserve it and I’ll admit it’s some impatience on my part.
Pure speculation on my part here: I do think they are going to have Michael and Linc go after the conspiracy. Great! As I said, that’s been done before so it’s up to them to make it fresh just like they made breaking out of prison fresh. They could have made it fresh by not making it about avenging a lost love, which I think they are going for that. I think that motivation is completely unnecessary considering all that the The Company has done to the family: Lisa, Aldo, LJ, Linc, Vee. You know what I mean? Vee’s death alone should have been the catalyst because she was Linc’s first love and Michael’s friend. Linc heard her die. To make this all about losing Sara for Michael in my opinion somewhat trivializes what has happened thus far. I really feel like this is the way the writers are going based on what I have read from them. (And I shouldn’t have read that stuff because I ended up spoiling myself, which I knew was a possibility but I felt compelled to do it since I’ve had such strong feelings lately regarding S3.)
Giving Michael a new love interest. WTF??? Now if some viewers had a hard time buying M/S, how do you think those same viewers are going to feel about that? Add to the hurt the M/S fans are going to feel? For the life of me, I don’t see how anyone thought this was a good idea. To me even with the somewhat implausibility of Michael and Sara finding true love, it made sense. Him finding someone again, doesn’t especially now. It reeks of lazy writing, insensitivity and a lack of understanding regarding their own character, Michael.
