Saving Numb3rs - The Fandom

Hey gang. I realize that this community has been quiet since we heard the crushing news that our favorite Fedcakes wouldn't be returning for a Season 7. But I see the community is still here and so I thought maybe I could post something to run an idea by you ( Read more... )

First, I'd suggest a sort of pledge drive where existing fandom members could pledge on a quarterly basis to do any of the following to encourage new life in the fandom.

1) Loan out their DVDs to encourage friends to get into the fandom
2) Host viewing parties to boost interest in the fandom
3) Writing a certain number of fic
(Note: We might also, as a fandom, pick a math related charity and have people pledge donations in return for fic. Even a dollar or two for a drabble earns money for the charity and new fic for the fandom. N100 might be able to partner on that if we do some sort of dollar/drabble thing.
4) Creating a certain number of fan art pieces
5) Do crossovers with other fandoms using Numb3rs as well to draw in fans from those other fandoms

You get the idea.

Second, in response to Lilac's post below most fandoms do a wiki to collect all aspects of a fandom in one place. Everyone can edit it so it wouldn't be a burden for one person to maintain. We'd probably just need someone to take on the onus of getting us say a Wikia account and publicizing it so we can get going.

P.S. Not sure where the tension's been as of late, but sorry to hear there has been some. I've been just sitting here happily in my corner of the fandom, hanging out with you lovely slashchat ladies, so I tend to miss all the annoying drama.

The tension has been there in some circles for over a year... and maybe some of that was the uncertainty in the show's fate. *shrugs* I've been trying to ignore it but I know a couple people have left because of it and I just want to do something to counteract.

I like all of your idea and I also think encouraging recs would be a good idea. I'm seeing more and more new names on the newsletter so maybe encouraging people to read by reccing and/or commenting on those posts so that new writers keep working would be a good idea. I know I've certainly grown as a writer because of the comments I've received over the years. It's really how you learn.

The question is how to get some of these things into action. Hmmmmm... it's tricky but I think it can be done.
