CHARACTER NAME: Clare
FANDOM: Claymore
CANON:
Clare will be taken from Chapter 91: Stirrings of Awakening, at the very end of the chapter. She's already begun to engage Riful of the West after Renee escaped from Riful. Clare has attempted to escape herself, but, instead, finds herself staring right at Luciela and Raphaela's combined form. She's on the run from Riful, especially as the Abyssal One is ready to tear Clare limb from limb for coming into her territory and failing to hold up her end of the bargain.
WHAT THEY LOST:
Clare will lose the ability to access Windcutter/Quicksword. She would lose both because Clare has the capacity to use both, but they're so similar that it would be better to lose both rather than just one, as Clare uses Windcutter more frequently than Quicksword.
PERSONALITY:
Clare is outwardly calm, but, truly, underneath it, is a soul passionately hunting for revenge against Teresa's murderer. She defends her friends and is driven, more so by herself, than society. She is constantly being reminded she's weak, especially so by anyone ranked higher among the Claymores. As such, she is well aware that she needs to be stronger, and that factors highly into her thought process.
Friends are kept at an arm's length. Seemingly as soon as she gets close to someone, they're torn from her. That's not to say she doesn't make friends, but, because of her hidden bitterness and hurt, she wants to keep from being hurt again. Jean made friends with her, forcing herself onto the 47th Claymore merely because Clare had saved Jean's life. She can make allies, and does so, but most stay purely professional. Long association (or association during traumatic events, as is the typical for a shonen series) is another way to get into Clare's heart.
Despite all this, her drive to be stronger wins over. She'll rush into battle, knowing her opponent is far stronger than herself, often resulting in other people shoving her face into the ground. She isn't suicidal, though, and that's the difference. Clare, in the end, has a good heart. She won't leave behind an abandoned boy, no matter how much it would slow her down, and she certainly won't do something that will force her to lose her humanity unless it's something extreme, as is exhibited in the fight with Rigald, she was willing to push her body to its absolute maximum, but Awakened to the point where she didn't think she could pull herself back, and was willing to die there while she was still slightly human.
Concerning her friends and Teresa, Clare has a hot temper. She can rise to the bait offered of knowledge of her hated foe (Priscilla) or grow enraged when something is denied to her she so painfully wants. Above all, an angry Clare is a forced to be reckoned with. Though once ranked dead last, she has the capacity to defeat an Awakened single-digit, given enough incentive and provocation. Her ability to go over her limit and return is a perfect example of her reckless willpower.
THIRD-PERSON WRITING SAMPLE:
There was a strange sensation of her back being pressed up against something hard. While that, in itself, wasn't so strange, Clare found herself wondering just when she'd been knocked out. Perhaps it was the overpowering of the yoki she'd sensed? Certainly it wasn't enough to knock her out. But it had been so different.
As her eyes opened, she let out a groan. A hand reached up to rub her blonde head. "Where is..." this? "... a castle?" Her silver eyes locked on the ceiling. Stone. She stood, not quite noticing the simple black journal nearby. "I don't recall entering one like this..." She glanced around. This was not Riful's castle. That was easy enough to notice. If it wasn't Riful's castle, where was it? Had the Abyssal One knocked her out to take her to a new prison?
She drew her sword to ensure it was still solid. As Miria had predicted, it was in one piece. Clare slid it back into the sheath over her back. "This is not the same place." She walked around the room, prodding the stone.
"Where is this?" She repeated, slightly frustrated. Was it the Organization's doing? Rubel's? "Certainly not her lair."
No. Riful would be after her if that was the case. Or her lump of a man, Dauf. Clare could really only conclude that this was all something the strange yoki produced by that thing in Riful's dungeon. There was no way the Organization could have caught up to her so quickly, none at all, unless Rubel was turning her into them, which didn't seem possible. No, because they would question his motives... right?
Clare's head spun. In so short a time everything had become ten times stranger. Even this odd place was making her over-think everything. She sighed and sat on the bed, sliding off the sword to prevent the bed from being punctured. Her silvery eyes landed on the journal.
What was that doing there? Her eyes darted to the door. Was this someone's room? She reached down to pick it up, surprised to see writing on it already. So it was... except that it had written what she had said. So very strange.
FIRST-PERSON WRITING SAMPLE:
[entirely recorded]
[a groan; someone's woken up]
Where is... a castle?
[rustling as she gets to her feet]
I don't recall entering one like this.
[the drawing of a sword, making sure it's still in working order before she pads around the room she's appeared in.]
This is not the same place.
[some tapping on the stone walls. Maybe it's a vision induced by the strange yoki?]
Where is this? Certainly not her lair.
