Burning my feet on a hot deck, heavy night air, sleeping with the window open, feeling the pavement through foam flip-flops, washing my hands in salt water and having them be salt-sticky all day anyway, sleeping in a tent on the lawn, watercraft, eating ice cream with no second thoughts, the smell of dirt, the smell of sand, crappy fireworks on the fourth of July, a cool breeze just when you start thinking to yourself that it's too hot out, reading on the porch when nobody's home, sunglasses sliding down my nose, riding in the car with the windows down all the way, wind carrying smells from far away, green, sun on the water, Nadja, hopping across the rock wall at the spit, walking barefoot on gravel, climbing trees, grass, the comfort of air conditioning when it's ninety out, roasting marshmallows on a barbecue at night, not having to put on a jacket once the sun goes down, flashlight tag, not wearing socks to bed.
