Last night was the Nightwatchman (aka Tom Morello, whose last name I may or may not have spelled incorrectly.) and Serj Tankian show at the Paradise. Honestly? It was like being in the room with greatness, because, well, the bands they came from are practically legends (for those you you that aren't with it, that would be Rage Against the Machine and System of a Down respectively.) The show itself was incredible. I know now why last time Tom Morello came to town he was with Dustin Kensrue (altogether now: lead singer of THRICE. Very good children. here's a cookie.), their music has the same kind of bluesy-funky-acoustic rock sound. Tom Morello is as politically charged as he was with Rage. He did a totally funked up cover of Rage's "Gurilla Radio" that I'm pretty sure blew the whole damn place away. He also did a new song, I think it was called "Lazarus On Down", duetting it with Serj. It moved me to tears. Again, Greatness.
Serj was less accustic and more plugged in. Some of his songs were downright DANCABLE. Quite the departure from SOAD. I will say more once his record's out and I buy it to hear more.
Met an interesting character from Portland Maine. He's worth contacting again.
Get their albums. Listen. Read the Newspaper. Find out what's going on in you city/town, your state, your country. Fuck Britney and Paris and Lindsey, and Jessica, and Pete, and Perez and all that celebrity bullshit. Do any of you think, in the grand scheme of things, who sleeps with who is important? What is important is things like the president refusing to acknowledge a mass genocide simply because it would make us lose an ally in a war we have no place to be in in the first place.
Delete TMZ and Perez Hilton and E! online from your most viewed pages. I'm not saying don't read them at all, they are good entertainment. But you'd all be better off reading CNN or MSN.com, or you local paper's pages more often then them. Sure, subscribe to People and OK! and Star and what-not. But take up Time, and Sierra Club and other mags as well.
A successful country will most likely be run by a society of educated, aware, and community-active individuals.
