The fog lifted and she alone stood. All her teammates lay lifeless on the ground around her. She looked down at her hands. They were bruised and bloodied.
Had she done this? Had she destroyed them all? Taken their lives?
No. She couldn’t have. She would never…but as she looked from Superman to Batman to Black Canary to every other league member, then at her blood stained hands…
She fell to her knees and prayed.
She felt a raindrop hit her shoulder, then another. She looked up and it began to pour down angrily upon her. She held out her hands, but the rain didn’t wash the blood away. She tried to rub it off, but her hands remained crimson. She tried to grab a fistful of dirt, anything to cover the blood, but it disappeared before she could get it. Then, she was falling, falling fast and she couldn’t fly.
The loud thunder outside woke her. When lightning struck illuminating the room, she could see that her hands were clean.
“Diana?”
“I’m fine, Kal.”
“Another nightmare?”
Diana nodded solemnly. They began that first night he stayed over. And she knew they would only cease once he went back to his wife.
