A Moment of Relative Calm

Hello flist!

Words can't describe how busy my life has been (the 90 minutes per day I spend commuting to and from my job eats up a fair bit of time). On the plus side, I'm loving being a resident of Vancouver again. On the minus side, my job consumes far more time and energy than I anticipated, and the available resources and budget are already being outstripped by the high expectations others have about the services I'm offering. But there are a few perks. Last week, the university paid my way to a conference in Austin, Texas. Between sessions I managed to get out and explore Austin a bit. I was delighted with the many restaurants, the music, the mild climate, the urban bats(!), and a few unusual sights ... a few of which I tried to capture with my cell-phone camera.

Late morning

The other side of the bat-bridge. Taken with a Palm Treo.

Outside Threadgills

Classic Austin eatery and concert venue, filled with neon service-station signs. Photo tken with Palm Treo.

Inside Threadgills, I

Lobster-car

Animated lobsters and fish, grooving to the sounds of opera. The most bizarre entry in the "Art Cars" parade, Oct. 23, Austin TX. Photo snapped hastily with Palm Treo.

P.S. I'm happy to report that Mr Savageland's on an even keel.

P.P.S. I'm managing a few lines from time to time on my sequel to Somewhere I Have Never Travelled .... I'll publish this here in my LJ first, with the first few chapters coming out before the end of the year. So damn slow, though. I truly miss having more time to write!

domestica, travels
