Tampa Update
Well, I've been here for 2 1/2 months, but I just realized that I hadn't updated. So, for the update...
I still do not have a job. It sucks. I've applied to about 15 different schools, for about 35 different positions. It's just so hard right now in Hillsborough County. I haven't even been able to get interviews for just regular administrative jobs either. So, needless to say I've had to mooch off my parents and Mike since we moved here. It sucks....BAD! I applied to be a substitute teacher in July. I didn't get all the stuff done until August when I moved here. I got my clearance letter on October 1. They hired me September 24, but didn't send my letter until October 3. I finally went down on the 1st and picked it up from the county office downtown. So, I went through processing on the 1st and then had to sign up for my 3 day sub training. The first available dates were today! Yea, 20 days later! The processing process was horrible enough, but then you have to wait 20 days or more to get into training, I can see why people never show up to training, they get a job in the mean time. Today was my first day of training. It was just kind of a long class from 9am-3:30pm at the Instruction Services building. (Yes, there are 2 county offices, one downtown and then the instructional services building where you do all your processing and such) My instructor is awesome though. He has lived in Tampa all his life. He was a band director for 20 years and then a school administrator for 13. He retired, and now does this sub training. My class, there were like 8 of us out of 28 who were doing this because we can't get a full time teaching position. He told us that this is the best way to get our foot in the door though, and when he was a principal and there were subs in our situation, if they were excellent subs, he would try to help them find a position by calling around to other principals and stuff if he didn't have an opening. He said that being Middle Grades Integrated Curriculum really helps too, which I am. So, that is a bit of a relief and hopefully I can get a full time position. Today was pretty boring though. Basically a lot of ethics stuff. Tomorrow is a shadow day. They assigned us to a school (we had to pick 3 when we picked the class) and we will sit in with a teacher, or teachers, all day and observe different teaching techniques, classroom management, etc. So, I am going to Armwood High School tomorrow. I have to be there at 7am. Then Thursday is more of the class type thing. Going over what we observed and different strategies. Then I am done. What sucks though, this training is UNPAID! Anyhow, that is what is going on with the job. Hopefully next week I can start subbing so I can make some MONEY. I am so broke it's sad.
That's all I have to update on for now. Mike is at school now until like 9pm. So, I'm going to go relax, get a shower, and go to bed. I have to get up at 5am because it'll take me about 25+ minutes to get to the school and I have to take Mike to school first. Poor guy has to be there at like 6:30am. But, he can just go into the Tuba Room and nap on the couch in there.
