Ohhh, I love them. It isn't her best series, I admit. The Forbidden Game is by far her best yet. And the Night World series is pretty good, too. I think I like the CD because of Damon. He makes the books more fascinating, and the fact that the next series of books will focus on him makes it even better.
Dunno who Damon is.haha. So I can't agree or disagree. My co-worker read no. 1 of Night world and she was like it's just a brunch of 3 books/stories in one book. So she told me it didn't matter which number Night World book(s) I read.
Damon is the bad-boy character in the Vampire Diaries. He's pretty awesome :D
Yeah, they have started to bunch the Night World novels together. Each one is separate story on it's own, about supernatural creatures called Night Worlders finding their soulmates. In this case, Smith uses the concept of soulmates quite literally, with people finding themselves bonded to people they may not know or even like. But there's also a larger story arch that runs throughout the books, regarding the Wild Powers and the upcoming battle between good and evil. Very YA, but I started reading them as a kid and I still love them.
If you do want to start reading Smith, though, I highly recommend you start with The Forbidden Game. It's still YA, but it's a great trilogy, easy to read and get lost in. I remember reading this and being so in love with some of the characters, especially the main guy, and being genuinely shocked by some of the things that happened in the books. Now they don't shock me, but that age, they did.
Oh, definitely! It's such a shame, though, because originally VD wasn't meant to be a YA novel. Smith intended for it to be a lot darker. I'm sure I remember her mentioning on her website that the new books focusing on Damon would address that fact, although she couldn't go as dark as she wanted without alienating her original audience.
But there was that huge hiatus she had because she lost a loved one. I'm just glad that the final book of the NW series is finally on it's way. I've been waiting for it for YEARS. And it better be good. Like, really good.
