Animal Testing
Many people do not think about the process of making shampoo or window cleaner. They do not stop for a second to think about how they might test the ingredients in the product or how they might test the final product itself. There are over two dozen products that I know of that have been tested on animals. Animals should not have to go through the pain of having products tested on them when there are more accurate ways to test them.
Rats, rabbits, cats, birds, dogs, monkeys, ferret, and mice do not react to things the same way we do. So how is it scientific to put cosmetics in rabbit’s eyes to see how fast it will eat through them? Most people know that rabbits do not have tear ducts and when they are strapped down they have no way of getting the product out of their eyes. This is a very inhumane way of testing. Scientist are also now able to grow human skin in laboratories. Why not test products on human skin? Testing on human skin would give more accurate results and would also save innocent animals who only want to live.
Scientist are also taking pregnant chimps and injecting them with nicotine to study the reactions of the mother and child. With so much research already done on the effects of nicotine scientist should not continue this path or research. If they do feel that it is necessary they should find an already pregnant human nicotine addict and study her.
Another famous animal test has to do with Nair. Every woman knows about Nair hair removing lotion. However, not every woman knows that Nair is tested on animals. Nair is put on a shaved section of animal skin to see what happens, most of the time the Nair eats through the animal’s skin. The animals are wide awake during these experiments and are given no pain killer. Would not it be more accurate to use real human skin to test Nair on?
A test that makes absolutely no sense is one where several mice (larger animals are also used) are put in a small plastic box or tube. These boxes or tubes have hoses running to them that spray in chemicals that are used in oven and window cleaners. The chemicals are sprayed in until several of the animals are dead or dieing. I say this test makes no sense because you would have to be a very slow person to not realize that it would take more of some chemical to kill a human then it would a mouse.
I think there is no need to test products or do research on living animals. There are several new and improved ways of testing products besides using animals. Animal testing is a very inaccurate science. Most of the tests done on animals are later redone on computers or lab grown skin because of previous inaccurate tests. Hopefully you now understand just how inhumane many companies are and that it is very important to find out what companies do animal testing and which do not.
