I'm working on a definitive write-up of this month's activities. In the meantime, I'll throw you slavering hounds some sops:
1) Conversation on morning rounds.
JS: duh.
Att: my attending.
F1: male trauma fellow.
F2: female trauma fellow.
CID: clueless infectious disease doc.
F1: Man, I've been sick to my stomach all morning.
F2: Really?
F1: Yeah, lower abdominal pain, nausea, the works.
F2: Maybe it's
Mittelschmerz.
JS: Yeah, there are some good German medical words. My favorite is
Spinnbarkeit.
Att: You know what word sounds German but actually isn't?
JS: No, what?
Att:
Gestalt.
CID: Maybe it's Yiddish.
JS: that much of a pedantic tool, but who also knows that this is his last day on the rotation in question> I assure you that 'Gestalt' is a German word.
Att: My daughter-in-law is German, and my son is fluent. When I said 'Gestalt' in front of them, they said it wasn't an actual German word.
JS: I majored in German. 'Gestalt' appears in multiple works of German literature, notably Goethe's Faust. ["Ihr naht euch wieder, schwankende Gestalten" Faust I, line 1] JS to self: Which Berufsschule did your daughter-in-law manage not to pick that one up in?
CID: Maybe Faust was Jewish.
JS DONNY, YOU'RE OUT OF YOUR ELEMENT!
Att:
2) Free Abdul Rahman and all other prisoners of religious conscience! American and Allied blood and treasure were not spent for this sickening throwback to the darkest impulses of organized religion. For the opposition (that is, to civilization) we have the moderate (!?!) Abdul Raoulf, who writes in on pink stationary with plenty of butterflies, "Rejecting Islam is insulting God. We will not allow God to be humiliated. [italics mine]This man must die."
Dunno about y'all, but my God--who is, coincidentally, the same fun-lovin' omnipotent deity as Mr. Rahman's and Mr. Raoulf's--doesn't need to have His sensibilities protected by mortals. [Rev. Falwell, please take note of this as well].
3) Charlie Sheen sucks ass. May I suggest that he solicit a hooker in Riyadh, and see how that goes?
Till tomorrow or the next day.
