There were many words that defined Percy Weasley. Most people agreed that dedicated, loyal, smart and hard-working were some of them. People, however, would never describe Percy Weasley as sensitive.
He was, though. Penelope knew that to be true. She could see it in his prolonged blinks whenever Fred or George said something particularly hurtful and in the tightness around his mouth whenever she caught him looking at his youngest brother in worry.
“Don’t worry, Percy,” she would say to him on such occasions.
“I’m not worrying,” he would answer, though he would give her a small, grateful smile, for noticing.
Mostly Penelope tasted it on his lips when they kissed, while they hid in an unused classroom, trying to be as quiet as they could. That was impossible, however. Percy’s breathless gasps were loud in Penelope’s ears and so were her heartbeats, which got louder and louder with each slide of her tongue against Percy’s.
Percy’s family and housemates never noticed how sensitive Percy was, and sometimes Penelope hated them for it. Most times, though, she was glad to be the only one Percy allowed to see through the cracks in his shield.
