I wasn't quite aware that I was in possession of a plot hole. It seems to be the popular thing these past...well, day. Since putting in the plumbing, I've been rather too happily flushing to give much thought to many things other than conquests, necessary evil, wing care and re-watching some of my favourite Monty Pythons.
