Sanctuary - a show different from the rest?

Sanctuary, a show about a group that protects abnormals or rather non-humans from Society and studies them seems like a rather typical Science fiction show that seems to delve into similar veins akin to Supernatural or any others. However, the main difference is in the cast of characters. While there is the requisite human sidekick, the rest of them are not humans. The leader, Dr Helen Magnus is an intelligent woman who has lived for 150+ years and the sanctuary is a carry on project from her father. Her daughter, Ashely, the blonde babe is trying to deal with the fact that her father was an unsavory character aka Jack the Ripper. As for the tech boy,Henry, he seems to be transforming into a werewolf due to some event. All this history just scratches the surface of other complicated facts that are linked to the formation of the sanctuary and Helen's background.

I instantly fell in love with the show upon viewing one episode. In fact, the main reason, would be that while it treats the audience as grown-ups, it is also mainstream enough so that your brain does not fizz out while watching it.
