i spent this afternoon standing around in 32° weather for 4 hours.
why, you ask?
there's a new apple store on 14th street. and that means i wanted a t-shirt, and, you know... just because i can.... and also apparently
Hot 97 had been telling everyone that Apple was going to give away everything on the shelves, or something, so probably the entire listener base was lined up outside, interspersed with the standard-issue apple kids. it was interesting. we kept telling people that they were really only going to get a t-shirt and maybe a poster, and everyone was like, man, if i'm waiting out here for a t-shirt, i will be so done.
and then, probably luckily, the poster tubes (which went to the first 500 or so) all had a sticker inside with a prize on it. most people won iTunes gift cards (me and jesse), but there were definitely some iPods (the guy in front of us), and j thinks there was probably a MacBook or two, although i sort of doubt it. maybe. the first guy in line had been waiting since 1 am (for a 6 pm opening) because he was convinced that he would be given a free laptop. he actually did end up winning an iPod shuffle, but i hear he was pretty much about to kill someone.
i managed to completely miss Steve Jobs, who was apparently walking around on the 3rd floor while i was fixing one of the patches on my bag, but then I stood up to see Whoopi Goldberg, who was buying a case for her iPhone. ah well.
and i did in fact get my t-shirt (which will eventually be made to fit me) and an iphone poster, as well as $20 in iTunes gift cards, so.... a pretty sweet way to spend an afternoon, all in all.
