our house was built in 1967, and features a fab slate floor in the foyer downstairs, an area you have to pass through to get to the living areas upstairs. it's a long, oddly-shaped space, and I've been slowly attempting to turn it into something less sparse-looking. one end (by the entranceway) is furnished with a floor rug, an oak cabinet and a vintage Singer sewing machine table, but the opposite end adjacent to the stairs didn't have any furniture at all-- until now. we bought a sideboard/hall table that fits perfectly in the space, and I'm amazed (and really, really happy!) about the big difference that it has brought to the feel of the area. so much less sparse, and a lot more welcoming. :)







I'm contemplating painting the rear wall a feature colour-- perhaps a rich chocolate brown, just to add a focal point as you walk toward the stairway.




this is perhaps my favourite part of the mini-makeover: a printers tray, with the compartments filled with various patterned papers. it took me an hour or so to select the papers I wanted to use and then cut them to size and slip them into place. I really love how it turned out, and it was so very easy to do. :)

That gorgeous! And I think painting that wall brown would make the space even more inviting. I can totally picture it.

I *love* the vibe of this space! Not Asian, but Asian-inspired; not contemporary or traditional or anything I can put my finger on except it's so great. We will now proceed to clamor for a virtual tour of the rest of your house.

I have two of those typesetter trays but never thought to do this with them. Hmmm...

thank you. :) I fell in love with the house as soon as we walked in, and this space has a lot to do with that intital rush of love.

type trays are so cool. I've had several sitting in a cupboard just waiting for inspiration to strike-- and finally, it did. :)

I love everything about this! I received a printer tray and have no clue what to do with it. This might give me some ideas. Your floor though...I could roll on it, so pretty!

thanks so much. :) a house with huge windows and lots of light was top of my list when we were looking for a new home. houses built in the 60s/70s seem to have that feature covered hands-down. (at least here in New Zealand, anyway.)

I have been snapping a few recent house shots, so I shall see what I can put together. :)

How neat! I really like the printer tray...did you just measure the top trim and the paper fit, lol sorry if this sounds like a dumb question!

thanks! :) my method wasn't very scientific-- I held a piece of paper up to the area I wanted it to fill and kind of guessed how big it needed to be, haha! it's mostly trial & error, though it pays to cut it a little bigger, so it can be trimmed down to fit if needed. many of the gaps are a similar size, so once I had a few trimmed, I used them as templates for the rest.

First, thank you for maintaining the integrity of the printers type tray! So many people just rip them apart and it's such a shame! Secondly, you have amazing paper choices! Great job!
