Our new old house

A few months ago, my partner and I bought our first house, a 200-year-old row home in Philadelphia. Like most row homes in Philly, it's tall and narrow, and like most older houses, its rooms are on the smaller side. This presents some design (and photography!) challenges, but we've been enjoying the process of settling in and making the house our own. Although I'm sure it will continue to evolve as we live here, the living room is the first room that we've "finished." So I thought I'd share some pictures--hope you enjoy!

Here is my one little before photo. This is what the room looked like back in October, before we started painting.

The wall color looks the truest in this shot. It's a pale lavender: "Winter Ice" by Behr. Our couch was much saucier before it had to wear this slipcover, but our cat scratched the original upholstery to death. Alas! Perhaps someday we'll get it reupholstered, but there are many more urgent projects on the horizon, so the slipcover is it for now!

Perhaps my favorite thing about the room are these windows and the door that face out onto our back garden, and let in lots of beautiful light in the mornings. Now I just need my plants to grow a little more!

You can see into the dining room in this shot, but don't look! There's still a ton of work to be done in that room.

I love my big bookshelf!
