A little girls birdy room

Welcome to Addy's room!

She has two beds in her room because they are actually bunk beds, with the bed on the left being the top bunk and the bed she uses for now as its nicely fitted with a guard rail and shes just transitioned from the crib within the last 3 months.  The other bed will eventually become her younger sisters bed when shes ready to move from the crib to a big girl bed.

The pelmet box was a simple and quick make to combine the brown curtains already in the room (we're renting) with the pinks and yellows in the bedding. I also wanted to cover the ugly tops of the blind boxes and this was a pretty alternative to hanging a rod and window valence.

To show the general layout of the room here are few more photos from different angles:

Looking from the attached Jack and Jill bathroom door she shares with her sister.  Note the long brown curtains that came with the rental that we had to leave up because there's a street light outside her window that is quite blinding at night.

Looking from the back wall back out to the hallway.  The door on the right is her entrance to Jack and Jill bathroom.

The details:

I couldnt fin any artwork I liked that matched the theme I was wanting the room to take, so I bought a canvas and painted my own!  This is the bird and cherry blossom painting I did for her.

The lamp shade I made by covering an ugly shade with left over fabric from the pelmet box, and then hot gluing white rose buds around the upper and bottom rims.

The pom pom plant my daughter and I made on our craft day last week.  They are the simple tissue paper pom poms you would make in primary school wired on to sticks with pipe cleaners.

I got the bird cages on sale from Hobby Lobby but they were all the wrong colours (black, brown and white) so I attacked them with a spray can of white paint and then added back the colour with a dry brush and some pastel craft paints.  I added sticks from our garden and a few feather birds also purchased from Hobby Lobby.

The wall decal was found randomly at a craft store while I was waiting in line to check out with the pelmet fabric! :)

I love, love, *love* this bedding.  Its so bright and full of colour and the quality of it is just scrumptious!  I had the girls names and first initials embroided on their pillows at a local embroidery place just give it a little touch of personalization for each of them since they will share the same bedding eventually.

The letters above her bed I made for her when she was a baby and have always been a part of her room.  Same with her taggy blanket, which has accompanied her on her travels from the USA to France, to Australia, to South Africa, to Mexico, to Canada, to ... you get the idea - it goes everywhere with us. Nothing like consistency when your trying to get a jet lagged babe to sleep.

Oh and the trundle we got so that we could sleep in her room should she be ill or for when the girls grow a little older and want to have a sleep over with a friend! For the moment though she uses it as her step up into her big girl bed.
