Evolution of a Kitchen.

A DIY kitchen done in stages... using very little money, lots of patience, and plenty of sauce!

I bought my house eight years ago as a foreclosure property.  I've been working on it here and there along the way.  Here are some pictures of the stages of my kitchen.  I love before and afters...makes you realize how far you've come!

BEFORE
About a month into home ownership.  This is how the kitchen looked when I bought the place!  Notice the wood all matches and is a very dark stain.  Didn't work for me as I am not a big fan of dark wood EVERY WHERE!

DURING
I painted the cabinets white and was surprised at how light it made the room.  Took down the huge ugly hood above the stove top.  It wasn't even an exhaust hood, just an ugly light??  It made no sense and it also made the room feel small and people would knock their head into it when cooking!  Pot rack went up in it's place!  Covered ugly tile with metal roof flashing.  Took broken door off cabinet above sink.  Still need to do something about big hole where built in microwave use to be!  Microwaves sure were big in the 80's!

NOW
New gray boomerang counter tops with metal edging added last year.  This summer, I tiled the back splash with glass tile.  The metal letters have no meaning...I found them at a flea market one time and just through them up there for fun.  I still need to update the oven and stove top which I will do eventually when I can afford to.  They work so no hurry!
