Hello, name name is Rhiannon and I live in beautiful Santa Cruz, California with my boyfriend, Jordan, and our little darling kitty, Ginny, and a fish I named Francis. We're students at University of California Santa Cruz and live off campus in a little apartment a few steps from the hustle and bustle of downtown. I don't think we have a definite style yet, since we just moved out on our own little over six months ago, but we're getting there and getting our apartment in the groove of things. Though it isn't as polished as some interiors here, I love our place. Come on in!
It should be noted that everything in this apartment was purchased on the cheap. We're in college after all, and an expensive one with tuition raising every other second at that.
Before!
All of those photos are from the day we moved in, before all of the boxes arrived and took over the living room for two weeks. The apartment is handicap accessible so there is an extreme lack of storage and ugly cutouts and bars all over the bathroom and kitchen. There is no painting allowed, no switching out light fixtures and no mounting anything in the walls. We tried to decorate around these obstacles and this is the current layout.
Entry area.
I just love the old mirror there.
If you turn from the entryway you see this. It's a bit of an awkward angle because the room is so narrow.
Music corner. Jordan just found a sheet of dinosaur stickers and now everything of his is covered in them, haha.
I only have two windows that get good light so it's a bit of a jungle up here. I like growing things though and this suits me just fine.
The television area. I let my baby succulent collection get out of hand. They're just so cute, I really can't help it.
To the left of the couch is a mini bookcase that holds books (obviously) and baskets of Ginny toys and yarn for crocheting. On top is a vintage chinese checkers board, some knick knacks and Francis. I want to get him a bad ass goldfish bowl but haven't found one for a good price yet.
This is my favorite piece of artwork in our home. My friend came over during the summer and stayed for a few days and painted a portrait of Ginny!
This is the reading and computer corner. Ginny has a little hideout under the chair (that I scored for forty bucks on craigslist, by the way).
The big bookcase.
The kitchen table.
The bathroom. We got another expedit to help store our toiletries, first aid materials and other bathroomy goodies. Spare towels are housed in baskets under the sink that help mask the exposed and ugly plumbing. I hate the way those bath mats are, if anyone has a better solution than that, I'd love to hear your ideas.
A little wall art.
The bedroom isn't anywhere close to being done, but I'll show you a little anyway.
I love elephants. There are a lot in this post. I bet you can't find them all. :]
Outside the bedroom, John Lennon reminds us to be peaceful and hides an ugly and awkwardly placed electrical box.
The kitchen, my favorite room in the house.
I want to hang more art up top eventually. The underside of the sink is usually covered by a curtain but the tension rod we had broke and I hadn't replaced it when I took these photos.
We recently got a plastic bag container that revolutionized that whole bag storage system under there. Amazing.
Ladybug things I have from my days on the Ladybugs soccer team.
Teapots and a ukulele and a light on top of the fridge.
My odd collection of white ceramic things that pour.
And here's pictures of Francis and Ginny.
