Eclectic Master Bedroom before & after

Hi guys, it's been awhile. Finally able to post my master bedroom in full!

Before: (of special note is the pink trim & doors)

After

The day I closed on my house, I came into this room and ripped the wallpaper down. The neighbour was still coming through getting all the crap she had stored in the house. Walls were primed & painted. Ceiling was painted. Ceiling fan added. The windows had to be sealed because the wood around them had rotten from the outside and there was mold damage inside. The carpet was just removed recently.

The headboard was a brass one I got at a flea market for $20. A $5 can of brushed-nickel spray paint and it looks pretty expensive and matches the finials on the curtain rods. The bedside tables were $20 for the pair at a flea market. The bird lamp is from JC Penney, and so is the bronze flying pig who travels around my house as my daughter sees fit. The blue suitcase in the corner I found in my parent's attic. I LOVE vintage suitcases/train cases. I also have a white one that I keep my makeup in that's stashed beneath my vanity. The puppy is a brindle dachshund named Sissy and was my daughter's Christmas present.

This is similar to the photo before, but shows the curtain rod finials that I ADORE. The photo above the lamp is actually a hanging jewelry box. I really love the effect of the three on the opposite side, with the two expensive brushed nickel frames (can't see the detail here because I still need to learn to take better photos) and the plain dark wood one in the middle ($1 at dollar tree, holla). I never had any plans to include the dark wood, originally, until my mother told me I could take my vanity from the house. Then I made it work.

The closet wall. This thing caused me MUCH pain. I bought the gorgeous satin nickel lever handles only to find out that they didn't fit in the original holes bored in the doors. In fact, this is true throughout my house. Solid wood doors are NOT fun to try and drill through. One of the reasons this room room FOREVER (and was only finished a few weeks ago) was that it was DEFINITELY my "learning" room. I learned how to do pretty much everything else in my house from this one room. I bought nice cabinet pulls to put on the built-in near the door, as well, since this wall is a big part of the room.

A view from the other side of the room. yeah, not much in here. The room is 10ft x 10ft, if that, and is actually probably the smallest bedroom in the house. But it had the closets and the worst location (it faces the road) so I gave my daughter the one across the hall and the orange one, which is across from the living room (and you can see glowing in the previous picture) is the study. This room shows another of my pains--the breaker box. I had painted this room and pretty much finished it, but when we rewired the house the electricians weren't the most careful of people, so I had a jagged gaping hole in that wall and damage near the drywall with the wires all exposed. I finally figured I'd just spackle the damn thing (took three going-overs and a week to dry) and painted over it, because since it's so close to the wall trying to hang something over it would be silly and just draw more attention.

So, other than my bed and side tables, the only other piece of furniture in my room is my antique vanity I've been having since I was a kid. The mirror birds flitting above were some dorm thing from JC Penney. Curtain holdbacks from Lowes. All the window treatments are from JC Penney.

(and um... ok, I haven't finished painting the doors that face into the hall... gotten a bit lazy finishing all the trim painting)

My treasures on my vanity. I've had Bobo since I was, literally, born. My whole childhood is encased in that bear. The wooden box was my grandmother's. The picture is my daughter & I.

note to mods: I try to include the most accurate tags, but since I'm never sure if I've done that wrong please let me know. also, no eclectic tag?
