Upstairs Sanctuary

Hello everyone! Our bedroom essentially became the focal point/ground zero of many wedding craft projects and now that we've finished a massive cleanup, I wanted to share what we've done with the space since we moved in a couple of months ago.

We had to combine many pieces from several of the rooms (mostly Ikea because they're über light and not worth much) featured in this post into one area. The antiques stayed on the first floor. You'll understand why after the cut.

When we were moving into the house our first priority was to address the heinous paint/wallpaper in mine and Michael's studios and the bathroom. The original bedroom color could have been useable, but it was scuffed, dirty and loaded with pock marks. I thought it would be nice that instead of painting all of the wood trim like I normally do, that I would challenge myself to live with it as is. I also decided to try to use our old curtains as something more along the lines of wall coverings. We decided to use a color similar to the curtains creating a color-on-color effect. We'll never need to use the blinds for privacy but we're not discounting them for climate control.

When we discussed our bedroom we envisioned moving the bookcase to the attic and creating an open media/lounge area with a long low shelving unit along the back wall, but discovered that said bookcase was anchored in such a way that moving it would have caused more damage than we were willing to repair as a rental. So, we made the best of our situation. At least we think so. :)

Before. I loathe wall-to-wall carpeting, but this hasn't been too bad!

How we got everything upstairs...
The movers were very reluctant to help us get most anything up the 'path'. Michael and I had carried/pulled/lifted several items upstairs to be stored in the amazing walk-in attic. They drew the line at my industrial sewing machine.

Blue paint on the walls.

After.

Vintage jewelry display and sometime make-up area.

The bookcase...

At night... possibly my favorite time of all.
