Writer's office/Library

I actually made a post of this room a couple of years ago, when I originally turned it into a Library, and again when we added a Desk corner

That worked out pretty well for a while, but the corner where the desk was, slopes very badly, pitching me forward in the chair, which gave me backaches. I also wanted a better set up for writing and working, so that I would have more flat surface area for spreading out and I could be a little bit more "present" in the household, rather than tucked into a corner with my back to everyone.

NOW - to my left I can look out the window at trees, to my right I can look into the game room and watch what's going on there, plus I can look through to the entry way and see people coming and going. It's nice - even in this room, I can talk to people easier.

I put the desk in a different corner, and facing out this time, but in such a way that I could use parts of my bookshelves as additional "desk space". They hold a LOT of what was on my desk before.

The computer system that is now stacked on itself against the wall is what I use more or less like a DVD player and is in a nice spot for watching, but I can still pull out the typewriter wing of my desk to set the keyboard on if I want to use it as a computer.

All of my reference books are on the shelves in the wall, within easy reach, but out of my way. Plus I moved a bunch of my favorite DVDs onto the shelves as well. (At least anything that's MINE. Stuff that belongs to the family, I left in the living room)

I made space for my writing binders, and my household files on the big bookcase against the wall - also within easy reach on my swivel chair.

Also? Notice the phone on the shelves? Is that cool or what?!? My hubby found that buried in the basement of our shop and dug it out for me. Best of all? IT WORKS!! Well, only for incoming calls. We don't seem to be able to call out on it - which I would assume is a technology issue between pulse systems and digital ones...but he did manage to call out twice when we were testing it, and then no more. We have no idea. But I can take calls on it, so that's pretty cool anyway.

In the corner to the right (as you sit at the desk), I set up a cabinet I had been using for a bar (is wasn't very functional for that) and put my printer on it. This works out pretty slick since I connect to it with a USB cord anyway, and it's out of the way when I'm not using it.

(In my old set-up, both the DVD computer AND the printer AND the reference books were ALL on the desk, leaving me JUST enough room for the laptop)

I cleared off the bookcases under the window to leave room for projects in progress and things like that. To the right of that chair is an empty corner where the bar cabinet used to be - now it's just big piles of books waiting for a new bookshelf to be built/purchased and put there.

The corner opposite the desk looks like this now:

That bookcase is now a mix of his and hers shelves and worked out pretty well. The other piece now holds the far more functional bar and serves as a second work area if anyone else in this family decided to hang out and write with me or something. (That big front panel folds down into a small desk)

If you're curious, here's how the desk was set up before: (The new way is much nicer, and versitile, since I can always set the laptop up more to one corner or the other if I need even more flat space for spreading out paperwork)
