Duplex

Jun 12, 2007 20:06

My fiance and I just bought a house built in the 1930s (well, duplex if you're picky) in a historic community kinda near D.C. We refinished all of the hardwood floors downstairs - they were in TERRIBLE shape, and did lots of painting. The previous owners had lived here since 1962, and I'm pretty sure that was the last time they updated the decor. The floors were hidden under blue and pink carpeting. And I'm not even thinking about the kitchen yet. This is after just 3 weeks of working in the evenings after work and on weekends. We were busy little bees...

View from front door.

This is what the floors looked like... pretty sexy...

Staining... (notice the nice solo wall of panelling).

Annnd fast forward to now...

Due to the lack of sufficient funds, our solution (temporary? permanent?) was to paint the panelling white. Do you think this works?

I don't know what I was thinking with this white chair. We have 2 dogs and 2 cats. I give it a few months.

Dining room...

This built-in cabinet is perrrfect for showing off my Fiesta :)
Also, this dining room table is pretty amazing. Upon first glance, it's your run of the mill octagonal pedestal table...

...but the top flips over to reveal a poker table! Here's Jason getting ready to play (we discovered that 2-person poker games are not too fun. We really should try to make some friends...)

And finally, here's the "reading room," which is really some sort of enclosed porch. The windows in the dining room lead into this room. We need to tile the floor in here... Oh, and we also painted all of the panelling white in here too.

This is the view of the backyard (which is a whole different story) from the reading room/porch thing.

I'm sure you'll hear more from me when the kitchen and bedrooms get tackled...
