This past Sunday my pastor announced that he's leaving our church and going to the bigger, prettier, fancier church on the other side of town. He's the only pastor I've ever known and even though I don't really believe, I can find a little peace and solace in just listening to him speak, even if the words really don't mean anything to me. When I was 10, I decided that I was going to be married in my church and that he would officiate. Now I have to compromise between the two. He's not allowed to come back for weddings or funerals. And granted, this is something I'll have to deal with way in the future, but it's still crushing. In all the versions of my dream wedding since I was little, he has been the staple. It sucks.
Mom, Dad, and Emily left for Maine today. For some reason, this move seems much more permanent than the one to Pittsburgh is. Maybe because this is medical school, this is real, not just college. I don't know.
Anyway. House is mine for a week and change. Will be nice to not have a curfew again and to actually be able to have people over and not have my family literally standing over my shoulder.
Made Nigella's Cornish Pasties for dinner tonight. Pretty good. If you sprinkle some grated cheddar inside the pastry before filling, it gives it just a little more punch. It's pretty good.
Last night I made some homemade mac and cheese kinda of thing. Except I used campanelle instead of macaroni. Shredded a decent amount of cheddar and colby jack, tore up some slices of pepperjack, added 1/4 cup cream and a dash each of cilantro/flat leaf parsley and cayenne. Mixed it all up with the hot, drained pasta until the cheese was melted. OMG amazing. Like...AMAZING.
Tomorrow night I'm making filo/phyllo wrapped asparagus and Derby pie. I don't know what I'm doing for my/our entree yet. Something yummy and new hopefully.
