My friend lent me her DVD copy of The Labyrinth, starring a young Jennifer Connelly as the heroine, who must brave the Labyrinth to reach the castle beyond the Goblin City to save her baby brother, who's been kidnapped by...... David Bowie as the Goblin King!
It's a great movie, but very trippy. Don't you just love 80s fantasy movies, with the bad special effects and numerous muppets?
There's even a novelization of the movie by A.C.H. Smith and Terry Jones of Monty Python and others, but it's out of print already. If you want it, you have to buy it second hand, but it's "rare," so the cheapest copy that I could find is $42 USD.... Yes, I bought it. It better be well written!
Anyways, here is the ballroom scene from the movie. I'm addicted to this song, even though I don't think Bowie is the best singer, but the song is well written. Also, I'm a sucker for masquerade ball scenes. I definitely want to be seduced by the Goblin King in a beautiful and magical ballroom.
