Batman
I think I can credit Batman: The Dark Knight Strikes Again. I read it as a teenager and it was so great. I mean here was a guy (Batman) in his 50s with no super powers and he still took down Superman. It was one of the first comics I'd read. My dad brought it home from work so I read it. I still have that copy too. It's practically a family heirloom. lol.
Birds of Prey
Birds of Prey is a comic book off-shoot of a handful of Batman characters. The 'original' group was Oracle & Black Canary I believe. Oracle being the former Batgirl who is now crippled. It's generally an all female group. Just think Alias with all women and superheroes. It's been running for 5 or 6 years now. There was also the TV show but that was a poor adaption.
Deadwood
After I started watching Sopranos I started checking out other HBO series and when I got to Deadwood I loved it. I'm not sure if it's the characters, the setting or what but I really enjoy this gritty western.
Dungeons and Dragons
I started playing back in high school with some friends. I don't remember if my best friend got me into it or if it was the other way around but we bought lots of books and stuff and played. :) And we played badly. lol. But since then I've gotten better and even run a few campaigns. I still say that D&D and role playing games are one of the best social games for creative people. I look forward to the day when I can sit down and teach my kids to play.
Lewis Black
I've always thought he was funny but a few things made him interest worthy. One: I drove to Massachusetts to play in a card game tournament and on the way back we bought comedy CDs to stay awake. Lewis Black's was one. It's a 10 hour trip...I listened to that CD a few times. Two: When my wife and I went to Myrtle Beach, SC for vacation we actually went to see Lewis Black at a comedy club. He's equally awesome on person.
My Name is Earl
I watched the show because of Jason Lee (Earl) and then I stuck around because I liked the weird humor. I thought Jason Lee was great in Mallrats which is one of my all time favorite movies. Luckily Earl ended up being a totally different yet equally funny type of humor.
Terminator
As a kid my Dad was a huge sci fi fan. So of course my dad had to see this. And since my dad was a huge influence on me I had to as well. It was one of the first movies I remember us watching as a family. I've always been a fan of dark, grim stories and what's not to love about cyborgs, time travel, violence and all that stuff? When T2 came out we were on vacation and my dad, my brother and I all went to see it. It's kind of weird to think but Terminator is part of my family. I can't even count the number of Arnold quotes and Terminator references made in our house growing up.
