This position is located in: Student Programs & Activities Ctr and is not represented by a union. Working hours: To be arranged. This is a Limited Appointment position. Limited Appointments have less than a total of 1,000 working hours. This position has the possibility of extension.

This is nine month limited appointment position and requires working 10 hours/week, ($13.00/hour) from September 16, 2008 - June 20, 2009 (with possibility of extension to next academic year). This position reports to the Program Coordinator of Danzantes del Alma and is responsible for dance instruction, choreography, wardrobe, education on the historical and cultural context of dances, supervision of student instructors, organization and staging of performances, coordination of Annual Show, and working as part of a team with the Program Coordinator, Student Managers and student Board to provide guidance to the troupe. Responsibilities: Provide at least 7 hours of dance instruction per week at established practice sessions in Mexican folklorico dance to the student dance troupe, Danzantes del Alma. Plan practice for beginner and intermediate level dancers, select music, provide instruction in steps, technique, choreography, wardrobe and make-up, and teach historical/cultural context of dances. Supervise student instructors. Organize and evaluate performances and coordinate Annual Show. Assist in purchase of wardrobe and equipment. Meet and work closely with Program Coordinator, Student Managers and student Board to provide guidance to troupe.
Requirements: Extensive knowledge of Mexican folklorico dance, music and wardrobe. Demonstrated skill to teach students to perform diverse repertoire of Mexican folklorico. Skills to choreograph folklorico dances. Skill to stage and present public dance performances and educational presentations. Knowledge of Mexican and Chicano cultures, heritage and history. Verbal and written communication skills to teach dance classes, conduct meetings, delegate assignments, and report progress to Program Coordinator. Interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse groups and individuals and work as part of a team. Ability to organize workload to meet deadlines and manage multiple duties simultaneously. Ability to resolve conflicts, mediate differences of opinion and model constructive problem-solving skills. Skill to base selection of performers equally on ability and troupe commitment to provide each member with equitable opportunities to perform. Bi-lingual public speaking skills to announce dance programs and explain their significance in both Spanish and English. Special Conditions of Employment: Work primarily evening and weekend hours. Provide at least 7 hours of dance instruction per week at established practice sessions. Perform and demonstrate folklorico dance steps and choreography.
