I know I normally advocate STEAC for holiday adoptions, but a single senior would be a lot more affordable. I'm going to ask you all now, those of you who are planning on giving me a present (looks pointedly at Cinnicat) to adopt a senior in my name instead. Really, I don't need anything and these folks do.
BREIFS: Many seniors still need to be 'adopted'
Dozens of local seniors still need to be adopted though Home Instead Senior Care's 'Be a Santa to a Senior' program. The program aims to make the holidays brighter for lonely, isolated elderly people. | Christmas trees set up at the Wal-Mart stores at 1720 E. Main St. in Woodland, 1501 Helen Power Drive in Vacaville, and 235 East Dorset Drive in Dixon on Nov. 13, will feature ornaments with the first names of needy seniors and their respective gift requests. | December 04, 2007 16:22
Holiday shoppers can pick up an ornament, buy items on the list and return them unwrapped to the store, along with the senior ornament attached. Volunteers then will collect, wrap and distribute the gifts to these seniors.
By Friday, only 64 of the 285 seniors who signed up had been adopted. To volunteer for the gift-wrapping day, contact Katie Kirwin at 666-0613.
