I’m feeling surprisingly chipper for a Monday after 5 workless days. Chalk it up to getting a decent night’s sleep last night, I guess.
Thanksgiving was a success overall. I took Wednesday off to take care of stuff around the house before we went anywhere. No big Thanksgiving on Thursday; Jenny saw some of her family in Nashville, I stayed home and started decorating the house.
Friday morning we loaded the pack into the Matrix and drove to Tennessee. We got to the farm around 4. Walked the dogs, ate some dinner, shot off fireworks that had been lying around the house since the 4th of July, went through some old Christmas decorations while Jenny endured a bad Julia Roberts chick flick with Mom.
Saturday Mom fixed us breakfast before we drove up to Kentucky to see Mamaw Leonard and Dad. We ate Thanksgiving leftovers, feigned interest in college football, then walked the dogs before getting back on the road. I drove us to Asheville, then Jenny took over. I was so uncomfortable in the passenger seat that I actually climbed into the back and laid down with the dogs before we got home. We rolled into Durham at about 1 a.m. Jenny went to a party in Chapel Hill and I unpacked the car and puttered around the house before going to bed.
Sunday I let Jenny sleep in and I started decorating the house in earnest. Luckily her band practice was cancelled so we could spend the day together working on the house. By midnight last night the tree was trimmed, decorations were everywhere, empty boxes and bins were back in the attic, and we were exhausted.
