OK, so I rarely have anything horribly exciting to write about in this thing, but this weekend was seriously just fantastic :)
FRIDAY
Started off a normal Friday until I got a call from a Mr. Michael McGuinness saying that he's going to be in South Lyon for the night and that we should hang out. So we rented Hostel and ate gummy worms and just had an all around good time! He's a good guy, that one. He told me about walking with the Community Democrats in the Liberty Fest parade in Canton and invited me to come . . . I'm not one for happiness and cheer that early in the morning so I declined, but then later when I got home I called him and said I changed my mind . . . you only live once, right!?
SATURDAY
Woke up at around 6:45 (After getting home at 1:30 or so) and got ready for the parade goodness. Mike picked me up and off we went. I got to wear a sweet Mark Slavens for State Senate T-shirt (Mike is his newly-hired campaign manager!). Met some cool people, saw Christine D from back in my CYO days - she was walking with Habitat for Humanity but ended up taking a Slavens shirt so she could advertise his campaign :) After the parade Mike and I got some McDo breakfast then he gave me a Debbie Stabenow bumper sticker that I promptly placed in Phoebe's rear window.
Did some dishes and another coat of paint in my brother's bathroom. My brother (the conservative Republican) was rather upset that I walked for the democrats in a parade. Then he saw the Stabenow sticker and had a fit! Seriously, he was like "You can't go around advertising for Democrats . . . we Howells have a reputation to uphold." I'm completely serious, he actually said that. Now, there's a few things wrong with this statement. Most importantly (1) I can support whatever candidates and/or political party I so choose regardless my family's political convictions. (2) Reputation? WTF is he talking about!? No one in my family has any sort of political reputation. They vote in presidential elections. That's about it. No campaigning, no primaries, no local elections, NO REPUTATION . . . unless he's referring to the reputation of the City of Howell being super Republican and racist.
Sorry for the tangent, I'll get back to Saturday's events . . . I KNOW THIS IS LONG, BUT KEEP READING!
After dealing with my brother I drove over to Scott Howell's house (no relation . . . we think). Chatted with his mom a bit and went Meijering so we could buy discounted Cedar Point tickets (Meijer was very good for people watching that day). After that we picked up Scott's friend Jess (who looks a lot like Hilary Duff) and then went to Detroit to meet Scott's cousin Melissa at a martini bar called Proof. They had a martini that tasted like a bomb pop (those red, white and blue popsicles) . . . yummy :)
After a drink (or two) we headed out to the Bohemian National House (kinda near the old Detroit train station) for the Leslie Hall concert. Now I don't have to tell you she was amazing, cause, well . . . duh. The opening acts left something to be desired, to say the least. There was a drag queen (I use the term loosely, I mean he didn't even tuck his junk!) performance (also use this term loosely), a dance of sorts, and then an "acting" troupe performed a series of inside jokes that the audience was not all about. Finally (about 3 hours after it was supposed to occur - sound guy was late) the main event . . .
Leslie Hall . . . is . . . AMAZING! I want to have her babies. To perform her "Gold Pants Lullaby" she had her backup dancers hold a 2x4 with a rope attached to it . . . she then dangled from this rope on a harness and sang her song . . . between verses she would make side comments about how magical it was and how she loves levitating. She also named a few glorious gem sweaters that some fans wore. I could not possibly sum up the breath-taking show that Leslie put on. There are just no words. I also got the opportunity to meet her, she's very down-to-earth, very real . . . she kissed me on the cheek! I never want to wash it again . . . but I will . . . and have . . . cause that'd be gross. I bought a T-shirt that I'll cherish forever . . . that way I can wash my face with no worries.
Ooh!! Guess who else was at this event! KATE MOSS . . . as in coked-out-supermodel Kate Moss . . . as in don't-leave-the-window-open-or-she'll-blow-away-cause-she's-so-tiny Kate Moss! I was dancing near her, but she had an impenetrable force field of weird circuit boys so I couldn't get too close. Also at the party/concert . . . The White Stripes!! Who knew!?
SUNDAY
Cedar Point Gay Day . . . not an official gay day, but apparently Father's Day is the day all the gays know to flock to America's roller coast. I never heard about this phenomenon until this year, and let me tell you . . . it's true . . . it was like 1 in 4 people was a mo. Hard core lesbians scare me . . . just putting it out there. I will decidedly be the worst MA ever ;-) Seriously though . . . I would rather be in the middle of Detroit at night screaming "I HAVE LOTS OF MONEY AND NO WAY TO PROTECT MYSELF" than get on the bad side of some of these women. But yeah, Cedar Point was lots of fun . . . spent way too much money, but I'm employed now, so it's ok!
Speaking of which . . . I start my Gap job tomorrow :-D I'd better rest up! Good night . . . and if you made it to the end of this you are my personal hero!
PS - When I get the picture of Leslie kissing me, it will be posted IMMEDIATELY
PPS - I'm getting really annoyed with my long hair and am very tempted to cut it and forget this whole Locks of Love thing . . . but no . . . won't someone please think of the children!?
PPPS - Mike is a very good parader . . . you should hire him for all your parading needs.
PPPPS - I love how you can just keep adding "P"s and never really end anything.
PPPPPS - I'm going now
PPPPPPS - For real this time
