What one thing has shaped you the most?

What one thing in your life has shaped who you are today the most?

For me, it would be my lack of a "home." I moved at the ages of 2, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, 18, 19, and 22. Those friends you have that you've known since 5th grade, the next door neighbor that you grew up from childhood with. The high school sweetheart that you continue to run across over the years. I have all these faces from the past that come in grainy or blank; friends whose names are never whispered clearly by the wind- all frozen in the 5 year segments of time that I knew them. I've rarely seen people change; I've kept in touch with few, and sometimes it feels like I've lived 10 over my 24 years. I can trace my difficulties getting close with people and my laissez-faire attitude towards lost friendships right back through Arizona to North Carolina; Ohio to California. At every step I've left just around when I've started to feel I had a life there. It hasn't been all bad though. I've probably met at least twice the people the average person has. I had a lot of time to read as a child, a multitude of experiences from swimming in the frigid waters of california, exploring the smokey mountains in North Carolina, and climbing Mt Wilson in Arizona. I've had to force myself to be friendly when meeting new people. I've met wonderful people all over the country (with a fair share of scumbags to boot!) Hypocrisy and decency are not the currencies of any particular area.

So anyways, post with what shaped you the most in your life
