General Update

So... been a long time since I made a real post.

Not much going on for me lately. Still looking for a job in my field, but it's starting to feel more like a desert. I'm trying to get an interview with a company that recruits for Honeywell, so hopefully I'll hear back from them this week. I called and arranged an interview, and they said they wanted to send me to their professional office; but instead they gave me the address of their main office. Not quite sure what to make of that; I guess they wanted to make me go through an additional primer interview. Ended up sending off a cover letter to the contact I acquired from that encounter, but unfortunately gmail decided to wait 3 days to tell me the address wasn't valid. Argh computers frustrate me, and not just because I work on one all day.

If anyone knows of Aerospace or Mechanical engineering or drafting firms looking to hire; let me know. There's a mountain of companies out there; and it's nigh impossible to determine which ones are worth sending a resume/cover letter to.

I've been keeping myself busy with a project; building a wing for my car to use when I go canyoning. Mostly that's just practice for the big project I'm planning; building an intake. Gonna funnel the air from the front bumper where the car came with a convenient little place to pull air from. Hoping to get 20 HP on top of the stock 180, but I'll be happy with 15 (especially since the intake will become more efficient at higher speeds). I've got my friends Pat and Collin helping with the project; they're both interested in learning how to fiberglass, so the spoiler is good practice for them (lotsa flat stuff). Still haven't decided how I'm going to build the intake. The current plan is to build a mold using styrafoam, cover that with bondo, sand till it's smooth, coat with a thin layer of epoxy. Then I'll add cutting cutting planes (prob have to section them due to the weird shape) and then glue something thin (maybe metal) between the two halves. After that, it's just a matter of adding a sealing agent (so I can actually seperate the fiberglass from the mold); fiberglassing, taking it apart; sanding, then fiberglassing the two halves together. Should be a good way to burn some free time.

Been to see a couple movies lately; went and saw The Protector (which surprisingly didn't make any more sense in English than it did in Thai), and Crank. The Protector is a truly atrocious movie. The acting isn't so much to blame as the plot, script, and complete lack of continuity. Let's just say the cops give the agents from Minority Report a run for their money when it comes to randomly showing up at the scenes of crimes; bout says it all. Ok, not all. In spite of its shortcomings; it's a terrific amount of fun if you just want to see some heads busted. Tony Jaa is the most impressive acrobat/martial artist I've seen in a long time. Oh, and the cinematography was really friggin impressive during the fight scenes, especially during the 5 minute uncut fight scene where he storms 5 stories up a spiral staircase going around the lobby of a hotel. So fun, but no oscars for Jaa. And to think, I wrote a review of this movie without mentioning...

Crank blew me away... I wasn't expecting much beyond a standard fare action movie. Instead I found myself caught up in a real head trip; the whole thing is filmed in real time as Statham wakes up, finds out he's been poisoned in his sleep, and then seeks revenge before his time runs out. The poison cuts off the adrenal gland, making his heart sputter out if he doesn't keep the adrenaline flowing. With a combination of dangerous driving, fighting, sex in public, and artificial adrenaline/cocaine he stays alive for an hour and a half, wreaking havoc around the city. What blew me away was how much it got my adrenaline going; as if sitting back in my seat would lead me to an eternal slumber. And no, I don't mean I was bored :-P Fun movie, at the end of it we stepped out into the lobby a worn out, and I remember looking down at my watch and thinking that there was no way it had only been an hour and a half.

Speaking of Jason Statham, on Saturday I went over to my neighbors place and watched the UFC fights on PPV. Apparently Statham goes to every event, cause there he was... Also there; Rob Schneider, who, everyone agreed, looked thoroughly baked. Or worse. I guess that's one way to enjoy carnage :-P The night's title fight was very impressive, and there was one other decent fight; otherwise it looked like a few guys without the talent for profesional fighting
So that was entertaining; then afterwards; the hookah bar! We went to King Tuts tho; where I can never get a decent amount of smoke.

Ok, at work and have no time so I'll update some other time
