She is a grey Thoroughbred mare, of Secretariat heritage, and off the track. She is definately a racehorse, as she was weaving a bit at first, and paced. Now she's settled in and much better. She dances around sometimes when she gets excited, but as long as I'm gentle and calm with her, she's fine. Registered name is "Ooh Nuch" or something like that (pronounced: "ooo" "noosh" I think)
Now that I have your attention....let me explain. The Academy owns her...but I am the only one willing to do the work required to get her back into shape. Therefore, she is mine and I will ride her. I rode her Saturday, and she did beautifully...excellent response to leg and hand aids. Very light on her feet, even though she has a sore back foot. But, I'm getting it better, slowly, with coaching/help from my friend Sara, who did a vet internship.
Anyways, I'm thinking of names. Here's my list...
-Belle (current fave....)
-Sugar (but bad associations for some out there b/c of a mean chestnut mare by the same name. And, it is freaking COMMON.)
-Lady
-Sparkle
-Pepper
-Comet
-
Those are my faves now, I think. Anyways...back to homework.
Horse people out there: any tips for getting a bridle and halter that fit the head of a thoroughbred????
Ciao.
