This entry is for Christine. :D We've talked a bit about the appeal of diets like the raw food diet, and our various attempts to eat better food. I think it would be good idea to be accountable to myself by writing about what I eat, in an attempt to improve my habits. So I'll write a little about what I've eaten today, and yesterday, inspired by the site Christine showed me the other day.
Yesterday, I ate no breakfast. It was Ash Wednesday, so I could say that skipping breakfast was partly motivated by Curtis' suggestion to eat only one meal (or two small ones) that day, but this wasn't the case. I was just lazy. I actually slept in, too, and ended up skipping my two classes. So, bad start to the day.
I came home in the early afternoon and enjoyed a small piece of cheese, 3/4 of a pomegranate that was about to go bad, some wine (VERY BAD, I KNOW), a pickle, a nectarine, and a few crackers.
Around dinnertime, I had the best dinner I've had in a while (by myself that is, since at Curtis' the meals are always good - eating is different, better, when there is more than one partaking). I ate half a fillet of organic salmon, a cup or more of rice, and about as much mixed vegetables from frozen. And some tea.
That night the weather was quite severe, overnight we got I think 20-25 cm of snow, which had started (along with a wicked wind) that evening around 6. Curtis and I met on the bus and went to an Ash Wednesday service at 7, and then nearly lost toes to the cold while waiting 30 minutes for the bus on the way home.
This morning we both got to our classes on time. We leave at the same time on Tuesday/Thursday, so it's a nice motivation to leave on time when you're going with someone else. I had a coffee and a chocolate muffin (day-old, but that's no excuse). After class I ran into Joel and got another coffee when I decided to stay and chat with him for awhile. Now, at home, here's the menu: handful of blueberries, the other half of my salmon fillet, and a handful of asparagus stalks (rinsed and microwaved a bit, since I'm not sure how cool raw asparagus is for your stomach, having never eaten it before) with a dip I made (tablespoon of mayonnaise, teaspoon of Dijon mustard, pinch of salt). The asparagus and dip is really tasty, I think it's the salt in the dip that makes it so fun to snack on.
Tonight I'm going to eat more salmon and more asparagus, possibly a bit of spaghetti and sauce on the side.
I'm also going to fix up this LJ a bit. I like writing, no matter how meaningless it is to record my boring life in this way. It helps me keep track of what I am. It reinforces my sense of self.
